When I interviewed, Jessica, she exhibited qualities I knew I wanted to capture in photos. She had personality just beaming from her face and an obvious determination. Jessica was in the military and wanted to shoot before she had to relocate for work. We booked our shoot for the following week. The focus and emotion Jessica had projected during recruitment endured throughout the shoot.
She is originally from California, and she was active in 4H. She was in the military and studying at the Nuclear Power School.
Jessica also plays Softball and a couple of her best subjects were chemistry and physics.
Jessica answered a classified ad and had never modeled before. Although she’s 5’9”, she has a larger frame than most models I worked with. But this wasn’t enough to rule out working with her. She sent me a link to an online portfolio. There was enough appeal to her look, especially facial expressions, to intrigue me.
To know what she really looked like would I arranged to see her in person. Jessica had an interesting face, was dedicated in replying to me, and was enthusiastic on the phone, so I agreed to meet with her in a coffee shop. She was prompt and arrived before I did. She asked,
“So, what are you looking for in a model?” I answered, “I know it when I see it.” “And are you seeing it?” she asked.
We stepped outside and I took about ten test shots of Jessica over a few minutes in the parking lot. I told her to be herself and reminded her that we were just taking a few test shots. Cheerful and relaxed, she passed. She had personality just beaming from her face. She had a healthy physique, and she had obvious determination that she was going to go through with it, no matter how much effort it required on her part. I knew she was worth photographing. I was sure she would not allow any obstacles to get in the way of us working together, but Jessica told me she wanted to shoot before she had to relocate for work. I told her I would call her the next day, which I did. We booked our shoot for the following week. The focus and emotion Jessica had projected during recruitment endured throughout the shoot.
